My teammate Aayush Mishra and I took home the win at Dataverse, a data analytics and machine learning competition held as part of the Yathartha event at Thapathali Campus on 29 January.

We tackled two datasets:

  1. The history of Himalayan mountaineering expeditions. We dug into expedition trends, peak data and geography, building visualisations to surface patterns like expedition success rates, peak heights and seasonal trends.
Sunburst chart of Himalayan expeditions by season, region and peak, coloured by peak height, with Everest highlighted at 186 spring expeditions

  1. Contraceptive method choice. We built an ensemble classification model to predict contraceptive choice from demographic and socio-economic factors.

It was a great mix of data analysis, visualisation and machine learning applied to real-world problems. Thanks to the organisers for hosting such an engaging event.
